OVER_ EXPOSURE (REST
Swiss Art Awards, Messe 1.1 (Basel, CH)2023
Large-scale sculpture, evoking an architectural fragment of unsettled origin, hard to “place” and possibly awkward - yet taking up space reclining like a body at rest. The form and materiality of the sculpture quote Basels' local brutalist architecture as to bring in the city into the a-historic halls of the fare. Simultaneously, the sculpture reminds of abstract and "illegible" partisan monuments of the non-aligned former yugoslavia - an entendre of misplacement, replacement and placement.
EXPOSURE
An interspersed durational performance held by 5 different yet momentarily interconnected performers. Each one is invited to lay down to rest on the large-scale sculpture OVER_ amidst the hustling of the most powerful art fare in the world. Within that context, performers are invited to rest as if on the beach and to focus on easing the tongue, the one organ that never fully relaxes until death.
( REST
9 graphite drawings on semi-transparent paper: Each a different interation of scoring the inherent embodied knowledge of the body at rest.
